12-13 - March 11th - MAC Tips

I'm going to start posting little helpful tidbits related to the Mac each week, in order to help you get a handle on your computer.

This week - Naming Files

Yes, I know, this sounds like the most boring topic ever, but in order to start being able to use your computer efficiently, you will have to know how to properly name the files you create, not just to benefit yourself, but also to benefit your teacher, who will be collecting hundreds and hundreds of files, and who will be on constant danger of being buried under a tidal wave of poorly named files.

If you, or your teacher, wants to find a particular file, it only takes seconds if all your files are properly named. For our purposes, we will use this format:

CLASS - NAME - TITLE

So if your class is 12-13, and your name is Ahmed Abdulla, and the title of the file is Writing Assignment #4, then the title of the file would look like this:

12-13 - Ahmed Abdulla - Writing Assignment #4

And that's it!

When you do this, your teacher can easily keep all the files for your class organized and within reach. If you don't do this, there is a very good chance your teacher will delete your file, and either give you a zero, or ask you to rename your file and resubmit it.
